Simple Steps for Replacing Old Tiling in Renovation

  1. Gather Materials and Tools:

    • New tiles, adhesive, grout, tile cutter, trowel, spacers, measuring tape, level, and safety gear.
  2. Remove Old Tiles:

    • Carefully pry up the old tiles using a chisel and hammer. Remove any adhesive residue and clean the surface.
  3. Inspect and Repair the Subfloor:

    • Check for damage or unevenness in the subfloor. Repair or level it as needed to ensure a stable foundation for the new tiles.
  4. Plan the Layout:

    • Measure the area and plan your tile layout. Use chalk lines to mark reference points, ensuring even placement.
  5. Apply Adhesive:

    • Using a trowel, spread tile adhesive on a small section of the surface, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  6. Lay the New Tiles:

    • Press the tiles into the adhesive, using spacers to maintain consistent gaps between them. Check for level as you go.
  7. Cut Tiles as Needed:

    • Use a tile cutter to trim tiles to fit around edges, corners, or obstacles.
  8. Allow Adhesive to Cure:

    • Let the adhesive dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions before proceeding.
  9. Grout the Joints:

    • Once the adhesive is set, remove spacers and apply grout between the tiles using a grout float. Wipe away excess grout with a damp sponge.
  10. Seal the Grout:

  • After the grout has dried, apply a grout sealer to protect it from moisture and stains.
  1. Final Clean-Up:
  • Clean the tiles and remove any remaining grout haze.
  1. Enjoy Your New Space:
  • Allow everything to set as recommended and enjoy your refreshed tiled area!

These steps will help ensure a successful tile replacement in your renovation project.
